WESTPORT HARBOR BOARD.
At the Westport Harbor Board meeting yesterday the following resolution was passed“ That in order to enable the Board to discharge the duties which are imposed upon it by law it will be necessary to obtain satisfactory answers to the various communications addressed to the Government ; to do this it is necessary that explanations be made to put an end to complications which have arisen and seriously impede the progress of business ; that to effect this purpose the chairman (Mr Eugene O’Oonor) and Mr Moynihan (member of the Board) be requested to aot as a deputation from the Board and proceed at their earliest convenience to Wellington.” In compliance with the above reqnest the deputation leaves for Wellington at once to interview the Premier. The cause of complaint is that the Government have persistently refosed to hold communication with the Board upon the management of the harbor trusts and other endowments, and failed to ratify the recommendations of the Board for the appointment of an engineer. The tenders for the construction of the Ngakawa Bridge, as called by the Government, contain conditions as to the time of completion which practically mean the shutting up of the Mokthinui coal field for two years, and a consequent loss of revenae to the Board of LBOO per month. Hence the action of the Board. During l last year 1,502 Anglican clergymen were ordained, as compared with 1,470 during 1819.
