AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— ln your yesterday’s report of the meeting of the High Schools Board of Governors you say that a letter was read from Dr Stuart to the effect that “ho had instructed the rector of the Girls’ High School to visit Christchurch for tbe purpose of reporting on Christ’s College.” This can hardly be a correct report of Dr Stuart’s communication to the Board. I cannot doubt that Dr Stuart knows better what is due to himself than to make use of any such language. Since the Board has chosen to give the matter such publicity I may say that the Right Rev. tbe Warden and the governing body of Christ’s College and Grammar School have seen fit to ask me for my assistance and advice in respect to certain matters connected with the school. To meet their wishes 1 must be absent from Dnnedin for a few days; and Dr Stnart has had nothing whatever to do with the matter except in so far as he readily and courteously undertook to accord to me, on behalf of the governing body of which he is chairman, the short leave of absence necessary to enable me to visit Christchurch.—l am, etc., A. Wilson. Dunedin, April 8.
