Government are praotically a Roman Catholic one, and that Roman Catholics are obtaining preferment everywhere. If that is so I would ask whether the men retrenched are Protestants la Major Gudgeon (just appointed, I am ,to#, to be chief of police, Wellingtpn) a Roman Catholic? I should also like to ask "Fair Play" to tell as whioh members of the Ministry are Roman Catholics ? and whether the Oatholios [support the present Government? His charges are exceedingly serious, and if any attempt is being made to bring religious interference to bear upon the officers of the State'every right-thinking man: be he Protectant, Bflpyld t 'resist ft to the uttermost.
