THE MANIPUR DISASTER.

MORE HOPEFUL NEWS.

[By Electbio Telegraph—Copyright ] [Peb Pbess Association.]

CALCUTTA, April 1. (Received April 2, 1891, at 10,50 a.m.)

Messrs Quinton and Grimwood and Colonel Skene are prisoners. Mrs Grimwood, three officers, and fifteen Ghoorkas are reported to have escaped. The War Office has hopes that tho bulk of the main escort, with the cavalry and Lieutenant Grant’s companies, are still entrenched. The attack on the troops is attributed to the fear of annexation, the Natives having become very restive of late. Later, Cowley’s column is safe, and it is believed that all the missing officers are alive.
