THE BRITISH REVENUE.
LONDON, April 1.
The revenue for the year was L 89,489,000. ‘ The Times ’ estimates that the Chancellor of the Exchequer will have a surplus of L 1,300,000.

Premier Rhodes bas received reports showing that the auriferous reefs in Masbonaland are of extraordinary richness and extent.

REVENUE RETURNS. MELBOURNE, April 2, (Received April 2,1891, at 11.80 a.m.) The revenue for the past nine months has fallen short of the estimate by L 300,000.
AN OFFENDED ADMIRAL. MELBOURNE, April 2.
There appears to be strained relations between Rear-admiral Lord Charles Soott and the Victorian Government. Some time ago a suggestion was made that a naval demonstration should be held on the arrival of the auxiliary fleet, and the proposition was favorably entertained by the Government ; but when the matter was brought under the notice of the Admiral, he replied in terms of manifest umbrage at the interference of the Government, and intimated that he would make his own arrangements for the receptien of the fleet.

In addition to the Agent-General, Judge Casey will represent Victoria at the Postal Conference in Vienna.
SALE OF RACING STOCK. SYDNEY, April 2.
At the sale of Hobartville yearlings the top price (340 guineas) was brought by the Trenton—Bridesmaid filly, she being sold to Mr O’Brien, of Queensland. The Trenton —Pareeseuse filly was bought by Mr D. S. Wallace, of Victoria, for 250 guineas. The total realised by the sale was 2,305 guineas. At the sale of Duckenfield yearlings the chief prices were: Grandmaster—Crystal filly, 600 guineas, Mr W. R. Wilson (Victoria) ; Grandmaster —Lalla Rookb, 510 guineas, Mr Yuille (Victoria); Grandmaster —Crown Jewel colt, 400 guineas, Mr Hall (New South Wales), The total of the sale was 3,315 guineas.

OAMARU, April 2,
James Bowler, a boy, died suddenly yesterday. At the inquest a verdict of “ Death by the visitation of God” was returned. The post mortem examination disclosed that deceased had ruptured his liver, which was badly diseased.
