Owing to the expense in connection with the range, such as carting, etc., Captain Sommerville has had to abandon the idea of the appointment of register keepers, and the scores will be taken as hitherto, WELLINGTON* January 9.

A tribe of head-hunters in New Guinea have annihilated a village of forty inhabitants, and are preparing to attack the village next to the residence of Mr Cameron, the Government agent, whom they threaten to attack. A force of constabulary baa been sent from Port Moresby to protect Mr Cameron
