Lancer has been scratched for the Wellington Cap. At the Kumara races Quibble won the double of Miners’ Purse and Dillman’s Welter. M‘Conkey, the rider of Captain Abram, was disqualified for three years for not trying to win the Hurdles on Captain Abram.
At the Gisborne races Pursestring won the double of Stewards’ Handicap and Forced Handicap; the Hurdles fell to Waterfall; and the President’s Handicap, of 160 sovs, one mile and three-quarters, was won on the post by the shortest of heads by Kapo (7.12), Misfortune (7.0) being second, and Wakatipu (8.7) third. Time, 3min 12|sec. AQUATIC. The Wanganui Committee have decided to have the championship meeting on March 2 and 3. The championship events are— Senior Four-oared Outrigger (with coxswains), two miles, first prize L 25, second do L 1 0; Senior Doable Sculls, one mile and a-half, L 10; Senior Pair-oared Outriggers, one mile and a half, L 1 0; Senior Sculls, one mile and a-half, L 5. A match for the world’s championship and L2OO a side has been arranged between M‘Lean and Stansbury, and takes place in April. ATHLETICS. At the Auckland championship meeting Wellington will be represented by Batger (hurdles), King (sprinter), Hume (jumping), and M'Donald (walking). None of the longdistance men can go,
