C.M.G.s.
TO THE EDITOR. Saxon blue ribbon with a scarlet stripe. Sik,—The immortal Leech once depicted an excellent cartoon in * Punch ' as follows: —An old gentleman is seen Bitting beside a pump with his belltopper canted over his eyes, his stock twisted round the back of bis neck, and altogether a pitiable sight (the old gentleman had been out dining). One bystander U exclaiming " Poor man, he is in a fit" ; another, "He has fainted, get a cab and take him to the hospital." Bargee comes along, and, after meditating, "The old chap is in a fit, is he? I only wish I had harf his complaint." Now, I only wish I had half a title, old Tory as I am. I know Sir Robert, K.C.M.G., won't begrudge me wish, because Tories seldom get titles in the colonies. Many a general and admiral are Companions, and remembering ita motto— A uspiciuvi vielioris iwi (a pledge of better times)—we should all feel proud (aa promotion is sure to follow) of our ex-mayor'B admission to the Order, even if the old Tory-hater Sir Robert does take precedence, —I am, etc., Jack Btjnsby. Dunedin, January 5.
