It is reported that Mr Larkworfchy has resigned his seat on the Board of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, and that Sir John Gorst, Q.C., M.P., and Mr H. P. Bristow have joined the Board of Directors in London. At a meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Garrett Brothers, of Auckland, a question was raised as to whether the executors under the will of the late R. Garrett, a former partner, had a right to vote in regard to the disposal of the estate. The meeting adjourned in order to obtain a legal opinion on the matter. Te Kooti and hie followers, after spending the Christmas and New Year with the Wairarapa Natives, have left for their homes again. The visit has been an uneventful one, and the Europeans and Natives have taken little or no interest in it. A singular mortality amongst horses has occurred in the Wairarapa district during the pant few weeks. The disease appears to be infectious, but is unknown to veterinary experts. Captain Johnstone (Nautical Adviser to the Government) and Mr Lewis Wilson (Under-Secretary of the Marine Department) left fox the South by the Hinemoa on Saturday in connection with the proposed lighthouse on the Snares. The clerks of the London Post Office and Savings Banks who were suspended for refusing to work overtime complain of the excessive employment of females in the department. The Hon. A. J. The elections for the French Senate have resulted in a great Republican gain. M. Ferry has been elected for tho Department of Vosges. Mr Sauford Fleming states that the promoters of tho Pacific cable are considering whetaer they will connect with Honolulu en route to Australia. There is great discontent among the inhabitants of Newfoundland at the ronewal of the modus vivendi with regard to French shore rights, and many threaten to overthrow British rule. Intense heat is being experienced in Sydney and throughout New South Wales generally, the temperature ranging from 97 to 113 in the shade. Tremendous bush fires are raging in the Barmedman district, 313 miles south-west of Sydc ey, and a homestead and 3,000 acres of grasf, have been burnt. A committee of the Knights of Labor at Palmerston North has been appointed to inquire into the dismissal of several casual railway employes, who were dismissed for not working on New Year's Day. Two prominent residents of Auckland have been requested by the Government to investigate the charges preferred against Dr Collins, of the hospital, by ex-Nurse Arnaboldi, and it is expected that both will consent to aot.

It is rumored that an attempt will be made to npßet the election of Mr Joyce for Akaroa, on the ground that all the polling places in the district should have dosed at the same hour, instead of that at Lyttelton at 7 p.m. and the others at six.
