The Bank of England returns to-day shows a total reserve in notes and bullion to be 1,11,104,000. The, proportion of reserve to liabilities is 83.24,
Consols, 94. . New Zealand 4 per 'cent, inscribed stock 104; 34 do, 94J. Three months’ bills, 5| per cent., and the market firm.
South Australian wheat, 38a 6d, restricted ; Victorian do, 38s, and flat; New Zealand long-berried do, 37s 6d, and active. Sugar : Best German beet, 12a 6d, steady; Java, 15s, quiet. Kauri gum (medium, half • scraped), L 3 I Os.
THE CONSUMPTION CURE, BERLIN, November 14. (Received November 15, 1890, at 10.55 a.m.)
Dr Koch explains that by his process phthisis in its first stage is absolutely curable, while in its later stage great benefit is derived. Dr Libberts, of Berlin, supplies the lymph. Tens of thousands of patients are already here.
AN ADMITTED FAILURE. LONDON, November 14. The idea of raising a loan of L 20.000 for the men out on strike in Australia has been abandoned. Mr Fitzgerald goes on a tour through the provinces to obtain relief for the distressed strikers.
FIRE IN A BARRACKS. LONDON, November 14. The married men’s quarters at Wellington Barracks were partially burnt to day. Many of the inmates were rescued with difficulty. The women and children had to be lowered from windows by ladders. No lives were lost, but twenty-five persons were more or less injured.

The Bank of France has advanced three millions at 3 per cent. Settlement is favorable, and advices from New York report that matters are quieter.

A QUESTION OF PRECEDENCE. SYDNEY, November 15, (Received November 15,1890, at 11.5 a.m.)
Admiral Scott has explained that the question of precedence raised by him is in no sense a personal one. It was simply brought forward in obedience to the Queen’s regulations, which slated that governors out of their colonies rank after the naval commander-in-chief.
A NAUTICAL INQUIRY. SYDNEY, November 15,
The certificate of Captain Nelson, of the steamer Alberta, has been suspended for six months,
EFFECT OF THE STRIKE, MELBOURNE. November 15. The revenue of the railways during the strike fell L 30,000 short of the estimate, and the expenditure rose L 30.000 in consequence of the difficulty of providing fuel.
THE CONSUMPTION CURE, ADELAIDE. November 15. Mr Playford, Premier of South Australia, is communicating with the other colonies with reference to sending a medical man to examine into Dr Koch’s cure for consumption.
A DISASTROUS STORM. ADELAIDE, November 15, A severe storm passed over the Gulf of St. Vincent yesterday. Six ketches were wrecked, and the French barque Notre Dame was driven ashore. She is expected to get off.
BAD WEATHER PREDICTED. BRISBANE, November 15. Mr Wragge predicts very squally weather between Hobart and New Zealand.

The Government of Western Australia have refused to share in the subsidy for the reduction of cable charges.
THE TASMANIAN PARLIAMENT. HOBART, November 15. The Triennial Parliaments Bill has passed,
WEATHER PREDICTIONS. BRISBANE, November 15. (Received November 15. 1890, at 12 45 p.m.) Mr C. S. Wragge, Government moterologist, predicts that in the course of a few days very unsettled weather will be experienced, especially sonth from Wellington, with rough seas and oceanic squalls generally off the West Coast of New Zealand.
