Business has improved during the week. Sugars are in steady inquiry. Snowdrops are sold at L3O; whites, L 29 to L 29 10s. Teas continue quiet. Dried fruits are very firm—currants bring up to s|i; sultana-, yjd; elemee, 6Jd. Slocks of kerosene are nor heavy for the season—high test is quoted at Is BJd. Patna rice has been sold at L 24, and dressed Japan up to L 26. Cornsacks remain very Oilmen's stores generally show improved prices. THE LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received ths following telegram from their London office, dated yesterday:—“ Tallow is in good demand and the market firmer. Good beef tallow is worth 34s 6d per cwt. Frozen mutton market firmer. New Zealand beef, hindquarters are worth 41 per lb. Other quotations unchanged. ” THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports that country people, especially rabbiters, are in good demand, but that they are hard to got to leave town. Wages : Couples, L6sto L 75; shepherds, L 55 and L6O; ploughmen LI, second-class 17s 6d; milkers, 10a, 12a, 15a, and 20a; rabbiters, 16a 8d per hundred ; cooks, 20 1 and 255; gardeners, 6a to 8s per day; bricklayers, 50a per week and found ; boys, 5a to 10a; sto>e lads, 15s.
