TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A great deal has been written time and again re the wanton deatroyal of the beautiful tree ferns which adorn the bush in the precincts of our noble City. Well, sir, a few evenings ago I formed one at a full meeting in one of our City churches whose pastor is very philanthropic and ever ready to the fore in any movement for the well being of the community at large, but who surely is deficient in his love of the beautiful in Nature to allow of the wholesale destruction (year by year) of the best of our forest foliage; for no less than four stately tree _ ferns were massacred to gratify an evening’s whim, in decorations, and then be cast away as useless, when, if left standing, they would please the eye and ennoble the minds of future generations. Surely if this is wrong in the poor tradesmen, who do at least exhibit them for a week during our chief festive season, how much more so in those who should be a pattsrn of good works. Hoping our religious friends will exhibit more religion and less tomahawk at their next anniversary—I am, etc., Gully Walker. Dunedin, May 31,
