Dear Sir,— Being intimate with ore of the principal supervisors of excise here I sent him a fuw .Won of Messrs Speight and Co.'b Dunedin Beer with the object of netting the o-Mnion ot the Excise Chemist on it; and lam gVvd to Bay he has pronounced it one of tho finest Beers he ever analysed, it having the high speci fie gravity of lO.SOdeg, the greatest amount of spirit and the least quantity of acid he ever cam* across. When I tell you that every shipme ot of Beer going out of the Clyde must be sarr pled by the excise officers and then analyst id by their chemists, I consider this opinion is better than anything else I could say on it. I am very particular about the beer I have, and hitherto have had a <lown on "Colonial," preferring to pay tho higher price for the best brant's of English Bottled Ale. I must confess* 'however, that what you have sent me pleases 'mo in every respect as well as any I have ever -used. Perhaps the great difference in price be- fcween 10s and 14s a dozen has affected my judgment, but I do not think so.
