COMMERCIAL.

The amount of revenue collected at the Custom-house on goods cleared to-day for consumption was L 1,063 17s 4d. Reynolds and Co,, of Auckland, sent a small experimental shipment of butter to London, and got the top price ruling for the beat Danish —v z., L 5 16s par cwt. A London cable received to-day by Mr G. H. Campbell states “ Flax buyers refuse to go on buying, except nt much lower prices.”

TO STOCK GROWERS.

Messrs Arthur M'Donald and Co. write us as follows:—“We take this opportunity of informing the stock owners of Otago and Southland that we have secured the services of Mr H. M. Driver (late of the Mutual Agency Company) as auctioneer and salesman, and we have definitely decided to commence selling stock at the Burnside Saleyards, commencing on Wednesday, the 17th inst. Our chief aim in undertaking this new department is to reduce the charges of selling at the yards, our commission for which will be 2J per cent. Reminding you that our first sale will take place on Wednesday, the 17th—We are, etc,, Arthur M'Donald and Co. Reference: Bank of Australasia.

MI'IING NOTE.

The analysis of the stuff operated on by the Evenden gold-saving machine shows that it returned 96J per cent, of gold. We hear that it is intended to float a goldmining company to work a small area—6ooft by 800 ft— in the Waitahuna district, about three miles from Waitabnna Gully, at present held under a miner’s right by a Mr Stiirm. At the request of a few gentlemen interested in mining Mr Stiirm brought to town a small sample, which, after being pounded roughly, showed good signs of well-colored gold. It is estimated that should the reefs—of which there are said to be three, from sft to 6ft wide—hold good about 2oz of gold to the ton will he obtained.
