The D. J.C. will not be represented at the Conference of delegates to be held at Napier this week, but will be bound by any decision arrived thereat, At the village of Hamme, in Westphalia (says the London • Daily News' of January 3), a most singular wager has been made and won. A pigeon fancier and boo master each backed hi 3 favorito racer. The course was three miles and a half tho distance between tho two villages of Rhynern and Hamme—and a dovecot which happened to be near a hive was tho selected winning - post. The race waß intended to be level, but in effect the bees were handicapped. It was very difficult to identify them, and though rolling a them in flour before they started on their course mado them easily recognised on thoir arrival, it must have somewhat retarded their flight. Nearly everyone backed the pigeons, and there was great excitement in

the ring Which assembled r6und the winning-post. The favorites were nowhere. The first bee came in 25sec before the first pigeon, and three other bees before the second. The others were not classed.

The register of medical practitioners in New Zealand contains 495 names; and of dentists 107 names are on the register. British reform has brought to light a forgotten personage known as "Chaff Wax." His real title should be Chafe Wax, and his duty was the preparation of wax for fitting the writs issued from tho Court of Chaneory and for the official seals. He has long drawn a salary for doing nothing, but he has at last been found out and will be abolished.
