The Grange v. Albion match—the final round for the challenge cup—was commenced on Saturday on the Carisbrook Ground. The weather was splendid, and again M'Lennan (the groundkeeper) had got a line wicket prepared. The Grange captain, winning the toss, elected to bat, and, sending in Dawes and Downes to the bowling of Turnbull and M'Farlanc, both batsmen defied everything and knocked up 44 runs before a separation was effected, Downes falling a victim to ono of Carr's loos, being taken by Croxford behind the wickets for a well got 13. Parkor, Turnbull, and Bakor left the crcaßo without improving the score to any extent, the Grango captain having put his leg where his bat should have been to M'Lennan's first ball, and with six for 50 gave the Albions great hope. But Currio and Dawes made a short stand, until the latter was taken by Crawford at point, off M'Lennan, for a well-played 24. Currie soon followed, after making 10 by sound cricket. Wells spoiled Carr's averuge by making 13 off him in four hits, but was eventually caught in the long-field off the same bowler, The innings closed for 84—a poor total after the example tho two first batsmen had set. But the Albion fared even wospe, just saving a follow-on by 7 runs, having only totalled 31 runs all out, Crawford and M'Lennan only being able to play Parker and Downes, as both bowlers were fairly " on the job " ; but Downes had very bad luck, and should have at least got two more wickets. M'Lennan bowled well for the Albion, but Croxford should have had a long-stop, as byeß made double figures. This match will be resumed next Saturday, and should draw a crowd, as it is at rather an interesting stage, but slightly in favor of the Grange. The following are the scores:—
In the Senior Cup match at Wellington, Phconix v. Star, Schoolhouse made 103 for the former. The total for nine wickets was 243. The Rivals have won the Junior Cup. One of their batsmen (Fuller) has an average of 124.
Playing for St. Bathans against Naseby Boddington made 82 and O'Hara 46 of the 160 totalled by their side. Naseby replied with 59 and 33 for one wicket.
