RE LEATHER BELTING DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER.

Sir, —With reference to the assertion made by the deputation to the Premier to the effect that " leather belting manufactured within the colony could not bear thp strain required," I beg to state that if the new duty be. not adhered to, Mr Lightband could never hope to compete with the imported artiole, and thus a colonial industry employing many hands would have to be closed.—l am, etc., A.
