Burned to Death.
A sad case of burning to death has occurred recently at Mooroopna (Victoria). About two o'clock in the morning a fire was discovered at Doidge's Hotel, Undera. The pight was close and sultry, without a breath of wind, and the fire soon spread. The flames were discovered in one of the out-buildings, and it was thought that they could be got under, but the sparks Boon communicated the fire to the main buildiDg, and the hotel was a mass of ashes in a comparatively short time. Mr Doidge, the wife of the proprietor, who was an invalid at the time, was awakened and brought out of the flaming building, but it seems she realised the fact that about LIOO in money was in the house. She mshed into the flames, and succeeded in rescuing some LBO, and went back—though every effort was made to prevent her —for the remainder. She succeeded in getting this, but while she was in the building the piano had been dragged into the passage-way in an endeavor to save it, by some men who were lending assistance. This obstructed Mrs Doidge's exit, and, before she could be rescued, she wss burnt to death, only the ashes of her body being recovered.
