The Republican Presidential Candidate.

• The Hon. Benjamin Harrison represents the State of ludiana in the United States Senate, and was at one time Governor of Indiana. By tradition and conviction he is a strong and consistent Republican. He resides at North Band, Indiana, of which State he is a native. Mr Harrison is a man in the prime of life, and among the Republican party is exceedingly popular. His father was Mr John Scott Harrison, and his grandfather was inaugurated President of the United States on March 4, 1841, but he died a month afterwards ere he had time to formulate a policy, after an illness of eight days. Mr Consul Griffin, who represents the United States in Sydney, has dedicated a book written by him, entitled "The Memoir of Colonel Charles S. Todd," to the Hon. John Scott Henderson, father of the choice of the Chicago Republican Convention. The subject of the memoir, Colonel Todd, was a near friend of General Harrison, whose presidential campaign in 18401841 was one of the most exciting in the history of such contests. In this campaign Todd bore a prominent part on behalf of Harrißon, who was ultimately elected. It will consequently be seen that in Senator Harrison the Republicans have a strong candidate, but whether he is strong enough to defeat Cleveland and Tariff Reform remains to be seen. We, however, think that he will run a bad second.
