It is the unscrupulous and slippery man who suspects roguery in every quarter and ridicules the very idea of disinterestedness. The best shelter for a girl is her mother’s wing, especially when she is disposed to be what the Frenchmen call a little “ chic.” What is the greatest difficulty a woman has to contend with in learning to swim ? —To keep her mouth shut.
