THE SKATING RINKS.

The prizes for the five-mile championship are to be presented at the Palace Rink tonight. Professor Gibson will also give an exhibition of fancy skating and hurdle jumping. A football match on rollers is to be held on Wednesday. Professor Simmons is to do some fancy skating at the Columbia Rink this evening. There will likewise be real chair and hurdle jumping, and the giant's swing is at 9 p.m. The Oriental Skating Rink, Caversham, was well filled last evening to witness a race between members of the Caversham Band for a trophy given by the management. After several well-contested heats the final was won by J. Paul, scratch ; 0. Briggs, half-lap, second. During the intervals between the heats the floor was well occupied by the visitors, who seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. To-night a challenge race takes place between two young gentlemen. The Oriental Rink, Duke streek, still retains its popularity. Last evening the floor was crowded with skaters, while a largp uumber of spectators were also present. We wfluld suggest that the management pVovict? u?orfi seats for the accommodation of onlookers. A dog race was run off, the contestants bending down and propelling themselves with their hands. There were five starters, but in reality only three were in the race. After an exciting contest the first prize (a silver medal) was won by T. Maw, C. H. Burrows Becond, and W. Dickson third. The distance was 500 yards. There will be a ladies' race (one mile) on Thursday afternoon for a pair of silver skates.
