The Natural History and Microscopical Society held their first excursion on the Queen’s Birthday, the rendezvous being Owhaio Creek and the ravine dividing Pine Hill from Mount Cargill. On Saturday the indoor monthly meeting was held, but the attendance was limited owing to the unfavorable weather. Numerous interesting microscopic forms were examined, from material provided by Messrs Chilton and Thomson.

The result of using the “lighted candle’ test for a gas escape was again illustrated a few days ago, when two London ladies who were conducting the experiment were lifted from their feet and hurled across the room, being severely burned as well as bruised. Baby King Alphonso XIII. is suffering from epilepsy, an hereditary disease in his mother’s family—the Hapsburgs.
