The steamer Worcester, from London via Sydney and the North, is expected to reach Port Chalmers ■klnut the 24th inst. The Kahu, a very handv little scrow steamer of 99 tons relator, arrived at the .letty atreot wharf at 8 am. to-day in ballast from Napier. The Kahu was built at Sunderland in ISS6, and is owned by Messrs Richardson and Co., of Napier, who employ her in the Eist Coast trade; while she also makf s periodical tripf to the Chatham Island?. Sho has a very neat little amidships, and is fitted to carry eighteen saloon passengers. The Kahu is commanded by Captain Romeril, formerly of the brigantine Sirah Pile, and comes hore to load grain, etc , for Nnpier. She left that i ort at 0.30 p.m. on the 14th inst. ; had fogey weather with light S.E. winds, and reached Wellington at noon on tho 15th inst. ; coal- d, and left again at 4 p.m., and mot thick weather with light winds to arrival. The brigantino Enterprise put nut the last of her cargo of grain at tho tongue wharf to-day. She will load without delay for Napier. Tho Tarawcra left the Viotoria wharf this morning and proceeded to Port Chalmerp, where fhe embarked passengers, and left In tho afternoon for Melbourne via the Bluff. The barque Belleialc has about 200 tons of coal CO put out. . ..,.., The Mahinapua left tho Rattray street wharf this afternoon tor the Woat Coast. Satuiday allusion was made to the failuro of Messrs Wingate, Bnrroll, and 0< underwriters and insurance brokers, who had underwriting liabilities to the extent of LbO.OOO Th 1 attarhf I extraot from the Melbourne ' Argus of April 20 records the failure of another of Lloyd s underwriters. The name is not disclosed by the ' Argus,' but we understand it was Mr Town-Smith. We also understand that his name appears on certain policies held in thiß city. ..,..,., , , i.i January last wc referred to tho failure of one of Lloyd's underwriters, and in the course of a slight controversy which arose stated that the deposit made with Lloyd's Committee was held to meet chims under policies in the event of a failure. The suhject is of groat importance to ship and cargo owners, who desire, above all things, that the security offered them by underwriters shall bo unimpeachable. Unfortunately another failure, and in this case that of a depositor "at Lloyd's, has just occurred, gravely shaking tho public confidence in the institution. The letter from tho solicitors to Lloyd's, addressed to tho Committee, was posted on the nolle-) board in the room on March IP. It speaks for itself as follows . - " March 9 1888.

Without underrating tho great strength possessed by Lloyd's underwrites in the aggregate, we must regard this now Mian as demonstrative of the iustico of our remark in December to tho effect that he security offered by a well-conducted marine insurance company is superior to that offered by individua underwriters. We have also received particulars of the new combination at Lloyd's by which, as wo surmised before, a eroup of fifty underwriters euarantee one another. The guarantee, however, is limited to LIOO by caoh underwriter, or L 5.000 in all for each underwriter.
