THE LAND BOARD.

Yesterday’s sitting was attended by Messrs J. P, Maitland (Chief Commission3r), Logan, Dallas, and Clark.

The application of Mr F. Wayne, on behalf of Mr Otrey, for a perpetual lease of the northern portion of section 30, block 2, Akatore district (estimated to contain about 100 acres), and on which the timber Is of no further value, was referred to Ranger Hughau for report. The application of W. Rolands, of Ophir, for right to graze stock over section 49, block 3, Lauder district, in order to prevent it becoming a rabbit warren, was referred to the Chief Commissioner.

Archibald Baxter applied for a license to raise lignite from a portion of the beach reserve opposite sections 16, 17, and 51, block 6, Dunedin and East Taiepi districts.—Referred to Ranger Hughan to report. The application of Alexander M’Lcnnan, for grazing right over section 0, block 7, Highlay, on condition of his keeping the land clear of rabbits, was declined. Mr W. D, Smith, for Alexander Simpson, applied to purchase or lease section la, block 6, Dunback.— Referred to the District Land Officer for repoit. Ranger Hughan was directed to report as assessor of valuation respecting the application of Mr W. D. Smith (on behalf of A. H. Chapman) applying to have valuation of small grazing run, 2 of 33, Kurow, amended, the fencing charged for not being there. The Under Secretary of Crown Lands intimated that Mr John M'Kcnzlc had tendered his resignation as as a member of the Board. Gatlins: Sections 1 and 3, block 6, 715 acres, Ll7 18a (upset rental) Highlay: Section C, block 7, 1,312 acres, L 32 16s 6d (upset rental). Mr W, L. Simpson, on behalf of Mr Callan, applied to have the land adjoining sections 46, 48, and 50, block 4, Sutton, known as BlairtTairen village site, notified as open under the Land Act Amendment Act, 1887.—Adjourned for a week. . , ~ , _ . Mr Scobie Mackenzie, on behalf of John Wright, asked that small-farm deferred-pay-ment special settlement sections at Hindou be reduced from ft cftpitftl vuiuo of L2 to LI per acre. Government to withdraw unsold sections from special village settlement, and to open them as small farm allotments at LI per acre as a village settlement, ' Mr R, B. Marin appeared on behalf of Michael Moynahan, applying that the upset price of sections 7 to 23 (inclusive), block 15, Sutton district, be reduced from L 5 to L§ per acre. —It was decided that the sections be offered at the reduced price. Mr J, L r . Sohoen, secretary to the Naseby Pastoral Investment Company, wrote in regard to the appointment of a ranger over lands in Run 219 a (reserved for settlement), and asked that the Board instruct their ranger to impound cattle running on the land.—Referred to the Chief Commissioner. The application of W. S. Grahame and Henry Walton to purchase agricultural lease area over section 3, block 14, Leaning Rock, was recommended for the Governor’s approval. The following applications for licenses over rural land on deferred turnouts for approval were granted s Charles Turfier, section 2,

block 5, Kurow; William Linwood, section 5, block 10, Shotover; George Mill, section 5, block 9, Tarras. Licenses were granted to the following for village settlement small farm allotments:—' Michael John Duffy, section 1, block 27, Tapanui; and Michael Duffy, section 4, block 27. The following application from John K.j Wado to capitalise on section 5, block 4,| Kurow, was authorised. Mr W. D. Smith, for A. Fraser, applied for right to graze stock over section 6, block 7, Jlighlay district, conditionally that he destroyed t!;e rabbits to the satisfaction of inspector.— Referred to the Chief Commissioner.
