CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The Committee of the Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon, those present being Messrs G. L. Denniston (chairman), J. Roberts, J. M. Gallaway, W. Gow, and A. S. Paterßon. Mr W. B. Buller's resignation as a member of Committee was received with regret, and it was resolved to ask Mr Harper to fill the vacancy. Intimation was made by circular of the formation at Sydney of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, founded on the same lines as the British Association. The Colonial Wool Merchants' Association notified that in future all ships or steamers reported in London as off the British or Irish coast before 4 p.m. on tho day fixed for closing the list would be admitted, provided the first port of discharge is a port in Great Britain. The Liverpool Shipowners' Association pointed out that owing to the present form of charter for wheat cargoes from Australasian ports vessels were frequently not permitted to load to Lloyd's freeboard, and that this practice had had the effect of almost entirely driving out of the trade vessels of 600 tons and under.—The letter was referred to the Underwriters' Association. The Woolbrokers' Association some time ago suggested that wool should be named after tne district in ■wKicK it was raised.— The letter was handed to Mr J. Roberts for a report, and that gentleman now intimated that the change proposed was not desirable, because in Otago the districts were so small, and there were so many varieties of wool, that the classification proposed would not be of any service.
