WELLINGTON, April 13,
Advices have been received from London that efforts are to be made to float the Pleione.
At a meeting of the Wellington ladies yesterday, in connection with the movement to furnish a children's ward at the hospital, Lady Jcrvois presiding, the secretary stated that there was L 145 in hand. It was decided to furnish the whole of the new wing at the hospital, including bedrooms, an out-door patients' room, and a consulting-roomi Twenty nurses are to be engaged. BLENHEIM, April 13.
There was quite an unique gathering at the anniversary services of the Wesleyan Church last night. Fourteen ladies and gentlemen sat down to table whose united ages totalled over 1,000 years. Seven arrived in the colony in 1842. The ages of one married couple totalled 152 years, another 149 years, and the oldest member of the gathering was eighty-two years. TAURANGA, April 13.
At Rotorua last night a Native military pensioner was ridden over by another Native, and died this morning from his injuries. The latter has been arrested. In the cases against some Natives for defrauding the Government of land-purchase moneys by means of personation, the accused allege that they were induced to commit the offence by the Government landpurchase officer, Mr David Ussher.
