THE PORT CHALMERS LICENSING COMMITTEE.
TO THIS EDITOK. Sir,—l have once more read Dr Drys. dale's letter of March 10, but fail to find therein any hiut that he wished met:> " discard my shield of anonymity." I may be obtuse, but I cannot see the "hint." But now that the doctor ha 3 spoken plainly, I decline to accede to his proposal. What matter who I am ? The disclosure of my personality will not alter facts ; it will not modify the opinions I quoted, or affect the relations of theee to the duties of the medioal officer of a Board of Health, or to the action of Dr Drysdale on the Port Chalmers Licensing Committee. Were Ito " discard my shield of anonymity," it might flatter or minister to the "vanity" and "conceit" of which the doctor thinks I havo enough already, and it might lead to personal recrimination ; but it could in no way affect the matters at issae between tho doctor and myself. Dr Drysdale is a public man, holding public positions; he is or should be amenable to public criticism. Let the (lector then defend his action reviewed by me if he can ; if he cannot, let him plead guilty or allow judgment to go by default.—l am, etc., Ai)VA, Dunedin, Maroh 20.
