RE-OPENING SERVICES,
For somo time the Presbyterian congregation at Mornington have found their church buildings inconveniently crowded, although _ only built; some seven years ago, and tho continued advancement of tho district forced the question of enlargement on tho session and managers. Several plana were submitted for the enlargement. The one ultimately adopted was tho addition of a transept, 54ft x 24ffc, and a minister's vestry adjoining tho platfoim, which has been raised at d enlarged; and extra spire lias also been given to the choir. The walls are of hollow hrickwoik, on couceto foundations, the outside be'ng colored, and the joints tuck pointed. The iote.inr is finhhed with a varnished kauri dado, and from it to roof U plastered. The roof* aro slate<\ and a neat ventihting turret is place 1 at tho apex of nave and transept. Tho tow ijuariy-lijht windows were made by Mr 1). tcott" who deserves credit for the manner in which he his executed his part of the work. One hundred and forty-tix additioral scats aro provided, making a total of 43a, excluuve of those cccuj.ied by tbo chuir. The new addi'.iin U lighted by two large sunlights", haviug twelve burners each ; benles which several additional pendants havo been aided in other p.irts of tho bailOing, thus giving a brilliant light in every part, care has been given to the ventilation. The old building has been placed in thorough repair, and the style of the new woik has been made to harmonise with it, both internally asd externally, so that the whole presents a complete and finished oppearanre. The cost of theie improvements hai been about LOCO, and the works have been completed in a very satisfactory manner by Mr T. J. Anderson, contractor, West Dunedin, under the superintendence of the architect, Mr E. M. Roach. The extended building was reopeced on fabbath last by a serieß of special (services. The Rev. James Gibb, of the First Church, preached in the morning to a large congregation; Rev. 11. J, Porter, the pastor of the congregation, presided at a gathering of the children attending the Sunday school in the afternoon ; and at the evening service Rev. Trofwcr Salmoud, D.D., preached from the text "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these thing* shall be added unto you.''
