MUNICIPAL.

Roslyn.—Last evening's ordinary meeting of the Roslyn Borough Council was attended by the Mayor, Crs Duncan, Mollison, Fraser, Lindsay, Sim, Farley, Higgins, and Ferry.— An estimate of the receipts and expenditure for the year commencing Ist April, 1888, and ending 31st March, 1889, was laid on the table and approved. The receipts were set down at Li,'7fi6 Is 2d, and the expenditure at the same amount.—The Works Committee recommended, with reference to Mr Robert M'lntyre's application, that a narrow footpath be formed and screened for about nine chains along the upper street in Broughton, commencing at the junction with the North Taieri road j and that tenders be invited for the supply of 100 yards of metal to repair the North Taieri road between Dornwell's slaughter yard and Church street. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended, with reference to Mr M'Lauchlan's claim for land sold to the council in 1877, that as the only record of the matter was the copy of a letter written by the council accepting an offer from Mr M'Lauchlan to sell a piece of land containing 4-lOths of an acre for the sum of L7O, the quantity of the land actually taken for the road be ascertained and the last paragraph of Mr M'Lauchlan's letter of March JO be submitted to the council for consideration. They also recommended that accounts amounting to L9O 13s Id be passed for payment, ft was resolved, with reference to the first clanße of the report, that the council pay to Mr M'Lauchlan for the land actually taken, being an area of 1 rood 12 poles, the amount of L 56 17a, Jess L2O already paid. The remainder of the report was adopted.—lt was resolved to pay Messrs Gough and Son Lls on account of metal contract in Clyde street.—lt was resolved to majje a general rate of Is in the £, and a gas rate of Id in the £; both rates to be payable on May i ne#t.
