'Hie cricket match between New South Wales and Vernon’s team was resumed at Sydney on Saturday. The weather was line, and there was a fair attendance. The Englishmen, who had on the previous day lost six wickets for 297 runs, continued their innings, which closed for 337. Rawliu made 39 and Attcwell 25, Turner was the most successful bowler for tho New South Welshmen, taking five of their wickets. The local team have lost seven wickets iu their first venture for 144. Baimerman made 33, Turner 27, and Burton Hi. The most noticeable feature of the day’s play was the excellent fielding of the Englishmen.
In the match between Victoria and South Australia, the hitter made 24(i. G. Giffeu was not out with 120 and Godfrey 52. A Christchurch telegram gives the billowing as the position of the Cup matches In-gun on February 11, at the conclusion of Saturday’s play ; —Lancaster Park No. 1 made 212 (Cut!, not out, 02 ; L). Dunlop, 21 ; W. R. Reeves, 20) v. Midland No. 2, which made 50 and 79 for five wickets (Anderson, not out, 40). Addington Fifteen scored 241 (J. Fowler, 09 ; 11. Ogicr, 45 ; A. White, 28) against United No, I’s 207 for seven wickets (R. Harman, 39 : Studholme, 50; H. Mathias, 20; W. Tait, 20). Midland No. 1 made 207 (Cohen, not out, 47 ; Ashby, 43) v. United No. 2 Fifteen, 109 and 44. The M.C.C. won by an innings and 53 runs. Ashby got nine wickets in the second innings for 23 runs, and succeeded for the second time thin season in doing the “hat trick.” Garrard got rive wickets for 11, and one of his balls was hit for 0. Lancaster Rark No. 3 Fifteen seoied 149 against Lancaster Rark No. 2 Fifteen, which made 212 and 49 for two wickets.
The general opinion in Christchurch regarding the visit of the English team is that the first match at Christchurch should be against a local eighteen, and the second match against a combined team from Wellington, Nelson, Otago, and Canterbury. A Wellington telegram states that the Senior cricket match between the Ronekes and Stars was resumed on Saturday. The Stars finished their first innings for 90, being 03 behind their opponents. The Ronekes followed with 101, leaving the Stars 105 to make to win. They have lost seven wickets fer 70 runs, and the match is considered a certain win for the Ronekes. In the Junior Cnp matches the Midland Second beat the Star Second by five wickets. The Plmnix Second beat St. Patrick’s College First by an innings and 200 runs.
