CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

A meeting of the Charitable Aid Board Committee, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Messrs J. Robin (chairman), A. C. Begg, W. Snow, J. R. Monson, P. Miller, M. Fagan, and A, Solomon.

THE INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. A letter was sent to the Government some time ago with regard to the Industrial School, in which it was pointed out that the Board had no control over the school, to which it gave a very largo amount of money. The Board had no voice n the management of the expenditure, and they believed that if they were given a part in the management the expenses would be reduced. , , . The reply from the inspector s clerk to tlie request was as follows:—"As reganls the request that means may be devised to give the Board an adequate means of control over the management of the Caversham Industrial School, I am to ask you to be so good as to say whether the Board has any specific charge to make against the management of that school. The suggestions in the letter re amending the Education Act would be considered when a new Act was framed. Mr RoniN said the Board might reply that they were of opinion that the cost per head per child was 2s Gd too much, and under proper supervision and management it ought not to cost more than 5s or 5s Gd. Mr Mll.l.Klt thought the request in the letter was entirely uncalled for. It was well known by everybody that the Industrial School could not be better managed, and it was impertinent on the part of the inspector in Wellington to ask such a question. Messrs Robin and Ueik; also spoke against the remark of the inspector, and after a short discussion it was agreed that the secretary should write to Wellington about the matter.

r.Kqi'isrriONs. The Benevolent Institution requisition for the month of February, amounting to L<:>o lis I)J, was passed for payment. The claim from the Industrial School to the 3lst December amounted to Ll.OO.'Us r.d, and it was agreed to pay L2OO of that amount

HOSPITAL BOARD. Messrs Rohin (in the chair), Snow, Carroll, Solomon, and Monuon attended the meeting of the Hospital Board, which was held after the previous meeting. The expenditure in connection with the Dnnedin Hospital for the month of January amounted to L 450 10a, the receipts to LW 17s fid ; and it was agreed to pay the balance, LUG 12s Gd. Mr Solomon asked how much money the Hospital Trustees have towards the cost of the operating-room, and where such funds came from.—lt was agreed to forward these questions to the Trustees to answer.
