She left Westport on the 10th Inst. : cillcdat intermediate ports, and left Timaru at 10 p.m. yesterday, haviDg exporioncid fine weather throughout the passage. She left Ct dixy on the 2nd at 4 p.m, for Auckland ; had fine weather, with smooth sea across, with light variable winds, until arrival on the 7th at S a.m. ; left again for Southern porta on the Oth at 8 p.m.. arriving at Gisborne on the 10th, and Napier on the 11th, ut 8 a.m. After taking in a quantity of grain, sailed at 3 p.m. for Wellington; experienced heavy southerly gale and head sea until ariival at 2 p.m. on the 12th ; sailed for Lyttelton on the ISth, at 3 p.m., arriving at 7 80 a.m. on the 14th, leaving again same evening for Dunedin atG p.m. Wc thank her purser for report, The steamer Waihora steamed down f om Dunedin this morning, and was berthed at the Bowen pier. Her departure is postponed until to-morrow. The Victoria, the latest addition to the P. > nd 0. Company's fleet, an ived in Melbourne on the Oth inst, having accomplished the long voynge from London in the quickest time on record, beating her 9ister ship, the Britannia, bv one day sixteen hears. O.i the maiden voyage of the Britannia she, allowing for the time cccupied in touching at Colombo, just beat the O.ient Company's steamer Ormuz, which up to then had made the quickest passage. Deducting stoppages, the Victoria covered the distance from London to Melbourne in thirty-one days. The Mararoa is likely to betaken eff the intercolonial trade and placed on her old route between New Zealand and San Francisco. She will undergo some extensive alterations to make her more comfortable for passengers when passing through the tropics. Amongst other changes, she is to have her lmmoane deck extended to the forecastle deok. The Mararoa, however, U not to be taken off her present trade till November, but the above is the arrangement pending some (1 al decision of the nostal authorities. The steamer Selcmbria is an iron steamer, with a net rfister of 1,932 tr.ns, and a gross measurement of 3,041 tons, and, if anything, surpasses her predecessors, tho Balmoral Castle, Ba'carres Brook, and Ashleigh Brook. The Selcmbria is four yeus old. Hitherto fhe has been trading between Loudon and the Falkland Wands, whore she seems to have established a good reputation for speed and comfort. The Selembrii was built by Messrs Thompson and Son, of Sunderland Her dimensions are as follow :—Length, sri Oft 2in ; beam 40ft; and depth, 29ft din. She is built on very fine lines, with nice, overhanging bow, and, being tchooner-rigged, has a very taking appearance. The stoimer is fully equipped with modern improvements, inc'tiding steam steering gear, and she is built up to the highest diss at Lloydß. Her engines are on the compound principle, of 360 horse-power, with cylinders 40in and 74in in diameter, and a stroke of 48in. The Solembri i was specially built for the frozen meat trade, and it is understood that ehc will fill up her refrigerating chambers at New Zealand for tho London market. Four of Hah'a patent refrigeratit.g machines have been fitted on board, and every provision has been made for the safe carriage of the meat. It is a matter of some import that her owners claim she has never required to work more than two of the refrigerators; and they naturally contend that she is the best meat risk afloat for Insurance purposes. The ship has a small but handrome saloon in the deckhouse aft. The saloon is fitted up and furnished with some degree of taste. Other deckhouses forward ar.d aft contain accommodation for second and third cabin passengers. Tho officerb' cabins aro under the bridge deck, and the 11121) find roomy quarters in the forecistle.
