ARRESTED AT WESTMINSTER. LONDON, Fehruary 11 (Received February 13, 1888, at 11.10 a.m.)

Mr Jasper Douglas Pyne, member for West Waterford, who recently made his escape from Lisfonuy Castle, where he had entrenched himself in order to elude the service of a warrant for his arrest, made his -way to the House of Commons, where ho purposed taking his seat; but upon making his appearance outside St. Stephens he was met by the police, who procoeded to execute the warrant charging him with inciting resistance to the sheriff. Mr Pyne and sympathisers violently resisted the execution of the warrant, but he was eventually taken into custody.

The copper ring has at last arranged to take over and work the copper mines of the Calumet and Hector Company on Lake Superior (Michigan, U.S.). For a long time this company successfully withstood thcefforts made by speculators to get them to reduce the output of copper pro rata, in order to raise the price of the metal in the markets. As they are the largest producers in America, and as their mines arc said to be the richest in the world, the success of the negotiations of the copper ring in thus acquiring control of the mines has caused not a little sensation in commercial circles,

H.R.H. the Prince of Wales will accompany Her Majesty the Queen on her approaching visit to San Romo. The Queen's visit is purely of a private character, Her Majesty desiring to escape the bleak winds of the present season.

DEPARTURE OF CONVICTS. PARIS, February 12.

M. Felix Fauro, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, made a statement in the Chamber of Deputies yesterday to the effect that during 18S6 1,234 convicts had been transported to New Caledonia and New Guinea.
