A Relic of the Dark Ages.
The following letter was recently received by the House Physicians at one of the largest London hospitals:—“ Sirs Haveing seen by Newspaper that a great many People are suffering from fever, and i am under the impression that a very safe remedy in curing of the above Typhoid fever is in the undermentioned Remedy take two Sheeps Milts new split open well Pepper and salt them tyc them to soles of feet of Patient salt Part Nearest feet keep them up for the space of 4 hours and i am sure it will cure fever of any kind for haveing tried the same I can speak with confidence has every case i have tried it has cured the same.” Then follow the name and address of the writer of the letter, which have every appearance of being genuine. The mixture of kindly thought and lamentable ignorance displayed in this the nineteenth century is pathetic.
