LATE ADVERTISEMENTS. DR A. W. CHASE’S LAST RECEIPT ROOK AND FAMILY PHYSICIAN. THERE are Receipt Rnok-3 without number, but many have loutul to their coat that the formulas laid down in the majority of them are in many cases either impracticable, or the results achieved by following the directions given are anything but satisfactory. Such, however, cannot be said of Dr Chase’s Receipt Books and Family Physicians. Dr Alvin Wood Chase, physician, was born in Cayuga County, New York, in 1817. He was the son of Benjamin Chase, a native of the •State of Massachusetts. When Alvin was 11 years old his parents located near Buffalo, Now York, where he grow to manhood. In 1841 he married Martha Shutts, daughter of Henry Shutts, native of New York. To this noble and gifted wife may be attributed much of the success that followed the late doctor during his his long and eventful career. Probably no author ever lived whose works are in so great demand as Dr Chase’s. He has given over fifty years of his life to the careful observation and test of practical recipes, as given in the three editions of his worldrenowned works. The result has been that one million and a halt of them have already been sold, and Dr Chase’s name has now become a household word in millions of homes as one of the greatest benefactors of mankind that ever lived. His last and memorial edition was only completed two months before the “good old doctor” passed away, deeply regretted by all who knew him, either personally or by his works. This last edition should receive a hearty welcome in every New Zealand family. While containing information for all, it is especially adapted to the wants of young wives and mothers, who by consulting its contents and following their guidance will find their household caves and maternal anxieties infinitely relieved. A mere glance at the contents of the work shows at once that instead of tho hook being gotten up to sell, the publishers believe in giving as much as it is possible for the money. Notwithstanding that they paid to tho heiis of the late doctor 10,000 dollars for the copyright, the enormous sales and subscribers dealing direct with their representatives allows it to bo sold at a small advance on cost. It is bound in oilcloth, contains over 800 closely-printed pages, in which are nearly 8,000 prescriptions and recipes. A treatise on the diseases of women and children, the care and nursing of the sick, the symptoms and 778 prescriptions for all kinds of diseases, 805 cooking recipes, 1,250 stock doctoring, mechanical, and other recipes, all of which are of the most reliable nature, procured by 50 years’ experience of one of the most noted physicians America has ever produced. N.B.— Although the price of this work is only 15s, it contains as much material and more information than any of the other books sold at double tho price. Orders are now being taken in Dunedin by tho firm’s solo representatives, Messrs Malcolm and Grico, who will be pleased to give any information regarding it, MU. I. O. O.
