Waihora steamed up the harbor this morning, and after discharging and receiving cargo, embarked passengers and left the Rattray street pier in the afternoon for Melbourne via the Bluff and Hobart. The barque Fumonoth is all clear of her inward cargo, and will be towed down to port on Monday to load for London. Tho s.s. Hawea steamed up to Dunedin this forenoon and landed cargo at the Rattray street wharf. Tho s.s. Beautiful Star loaded cargo at the Rattray street wharf to-day for Oamarn. Kakanui, s.s., 50 tons, Best, for the Bluff. Waihora, s.s., 1,269 tons, Popham, for Melbourne via the Bluff and Hobart. The steamer Waihora, from Sydney via Auckland and East Coast ports, arrived at Port Chalmers at 7.5 p.m. yesterday, and was berthed at the George street pier until this morning, when she steamed up to Dunedin to discharge and take in cargd. She left Sydney at 4.45 p.m. on the 12th, and arrived at Auckland at 8 a.m. on the 17th; sailed again at 0.30 p.m. on the 19th, and arrived at Gisborne at 11.45 a.m. on the 20th; left again at 845 p.m, and arrived at Napier at 5 a.m. on the 21st; left the latter port at 3 p.m. same day, and arrived at Wellington at 11 a.m. on the 22nd ; left again on the 24th for Lyttelton at 4 p.m , arriving at 6 a.m. on the 25th ; left again at 7 pm. same day, and arrived as above. Experienced light variable winds to arrival at Auckland, with fine weather and fresh N.W. winds to Gisborne, moderating towards Napier; thence strong N.W. wind to Capo Pallisor and strong N.W. gale to Wellington, moderate N.W. winds to Lyttelton: thence strong S.W. ga'e with head sea to arrival. The steamer Hawea, with cargo and passengers from Nelson via Lyttelton and intermediate ports, arrived at Port Chalmers at 11.30 a.m. to-day, and steamed up to Dunedin. She left Nelson at 4 p.m. on the 24th Inst.; arrived at Proton at 11 SO p.m., and left again at 3 a.m. on the 25th; reichcd Wei ington at 7 80 a.m., and left again at 2 30 p.m same day, arriving at Lyttelton at 7 39 a m. on the26’h ; pushed on again for hcadqu urtors at 8.30 p.m. same day, arriving as above. She experienced strong S.W. gales down the coast. We thank her purser for report, etc. The steamer Kakanui sailed this forenoon for tho Pluff. MISHAP TO THE MAY QUEEN The barque May Queen, from London, wont ashore at Lyttelton Heads yesterday. She struck on the reef known as Red Head, between tho bay and Little Port Cooper. She took the pilot on board outside the Heads and beat up against a strong, uncertain bie'ze. When off Red Head she missed stays and ran upon the reef. The tug Lyttelton went out and endeavored to tow her off, but in vain, for she had gone ashore at tho top of high water, and as the tide ebbed she held fast. Sh" is not scrit u-ly damaged yet. The National Mortgage and Agency Company have the following telegram from Christchurch May Queen sunk in har'oo-; 130 tons saved ; balance cargo perhaps recoverable damaged.” TUB SHIP ABANDONED. Latest. The vessel has been abandoned to the underwrites. She is lying with her head pointing to the S.S.E. and hanging on the boulders, from about the mainmast to the stern being in deep water. There is now (2 p.m.) nine feet of water in her hold. Tho weather is fine, but the wind is blowing fresh from the S.W. The May Que»n is still on the reef. It Is considered doubtful whether she will be got off. She was badly strained during low water. Out of 1,300 tons of general cargo. 160 have been got nut. Five lighters are engaged in the salvage. It is expected, if (he weather cmtlnues fine, that most of the cargo will be saved. It is nearly a'l consigned to Christchurch firms, except twenty cases for Napier. A good deal of it is insured at Home. Tho insurance in the local offices are : Standard, 1,3,000; National, LI,100; Nnw Zealand, L1.00O; Uni >n, L 900; South British, L2OO The vessel i* owned bv Captain J. Leslie, of Anerdeep, and is insured at Homo. She was commanded by Captain Colville. [From Our Own Correspondent.] Tho cargo of tho May Queen, which has been abandoned to-dav, is a very v-duibln one. Nearly all the leading Christchurch merchants are consigners. One firm have a line of HO.OOO on their goods. About 400 tons have been taken out of tho vessel’s hu'i, which is insured in England. Tho details of the insurances are not yet known, but the amounts will be very heavy. MOVEMENTS OP THE UNION STEAM STIP COMPANY’S FLEET. Friday, January 27. Lyttelton.— Penguin arrived 11 a.m, from Wellington ; returns 9 p.m,—Mshlnapua arrived 1 p.m. from Westport; sails 10 p.m. for Akaro’. Wellington. -Mawhera arrived 9 a.m. T ton.—Hauroto arrived 10.30 a.m. from Lyttelton, sailed 5 p.m. lor Nanier.—Koranul arrived 1 p.m from Lyttelton; sails 6 p.m for Nelson. Nelson.— Rotorua arrived 6 a.m. from Wellington , returns 8 p.m. ARRIVAL OF THE JANET RAMSAY. The schooner Janet Ramsay, which reached the Hoads yesterday morning from the Macquarie Islands, was tendered in the afternoon by the tug Plucky and towed into port, being berthed at the Bowen pier in readiness to discharge. Her cruise has been a successful one, she having on board nine tons of sea elephant oil, the result of some six weeks labor at tho islands. She left eight men on the Island with provisions, o*flks, and boat, and will sail again for the Islands on February 15. Captain M’Leod, to whom we are indeVel lor the report of the trip informed our representative that the health of all had been excellent. The Janet Ramsay left Port Chalmers on November 18 and anchored at tho Heads until the 20th, when she got under weigh with a N.E. wind, which held until she reached Port William, Stewirt Island, on November 22, where she anohored, and was detained there owing to strong S.W. gales until the 30th, when the gale moderated and veered to tho N.E., and she again got underweigh; carried fresh N.E. winds to arrival off the Macquarles, on De oember 7 ; after landing men, casks, and provisions, she cruised round the islands until January 18, during which time she could only lie at anchor on one or two occasions owing to heavy southerly AodN.W winds, with occasional N.E. and SE. gales.
