A late M.L\ was a Tory of tins old school, and anions the advocates of reform hi* resolute opposition to all change gave him a reputation for folly and obstinacy which was not b'>rne out by his real character. On one occasion he was canvassing in the presence of numerous friends, and, on asking a farmer for his vote, the man replied : " I'd vote for ye, only ye're such a fool." " Fool, am I? " retorted the other ; " then I'm the very man 1o represent you." This ciiamond wit went to the farmer's heart, and with a loud guffaw he promised his vote.
