The Exhibition Commissioners have cabled to Melbourne to inquire if more space can be granted for the New Zealand Court in the Victorian Exhibition. INVERCARGILL, January 25. At the sittings of the District Court today, before Judge Broad, ten bankrupts obtained orders of discharge. So far, only one insolvency has' been recorded this month. During last year 19,748 sheep Were frozen at the Southland frozen mteat works; and exported from the Bluff. If the works had beeH fully employed, good returns might have been expected, as a net profit of L2lB was made for five months' actual operations. Another shipment is now being got ready for the s.b. Selembria, which Calls here at the end of the month. The weather is very unseasonable, a great deal of rain falling. TIMARUj January 25. At the Police Court to-day Robert Sloan was charged with stealing a swag, which contained clothing, mostly old articles, belonging to himself and mate. The meii had come from Dunedin, and had had a common purse. The prosecutor said he desired to withdraw the charge, which had been made on the spur of the moment. He did hot now believe for a moment that the articles had been stolen. The accused defended himself good-humoredly, treating the affair as a friendly difference of opinion. The Bench dismissed the case, which they said never should have been brought into Court.
