The Victorian revenue returns place the total revenues for the year at L 7,054,434, as against L 6,660,565 for the previous year, or an increase of L 393.868. The increase for the half-year was L 320.566, and for the quarter L 164.914. The Customs revenue for the quarter shows an increase of L 28.279, and for the year L 105.816. There is an inorease in every item except sugar and molasses, coffee, opium, and malt. The ae* valorem duty on malt shows a decrease for the quarter of L 7.869, or L 33.191 fof the year. The railways give an increassr pi ] L 78.928 for the quarter, or L 193.828 for'thei
year, making the total revenue for the quarter L 711.667, and for the year L 2.575.787. The Customs returns for the half-year ended December 31 show the total collections to have been L 1,274,245, the drawbacks L 65.721, making the net revenue from that source L 1,205,524. The increase over the corresponding period of last year is Li 47,934, or L 22,625 in excess of the Treasurer's estimate. Below Will be found the principal heads of revenue for the quarter and year just ended, with the increase or decrease as compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. Customs for the quarter, L 549,394; increase over corresponding quarter, L 28.279 ; for the year, L 2,192,390, an increase of L 105,816. Post and telegraph, exclusive of sale of stamps : Quarter, L 5.865; increase, L 1.652; year, L 20.454; increase, L 3.989. Fees, including sale of Btamps: Quarter, L 207.832; increase, L 38.033; year, L 737.575; increase, L 59.068. Fines : Quarter, L 1.419; decrease, L 61 1; year, L 6,874 ; increase, L 576.
