FATALITIES.
NEW PLYMOUTH, January 16,
At half-past seven o'clock this morning William Skeats, aged seventeen, whilst bathing in the Henui River, was drowned. He dived, and is supposed to have struck the stamp of a tree in She river, and was stunned and never rose again. Deceased and three brothers younger than himself were all bathing together. Henry Clementß, who fell down a well at Waingongnora, near Hawera, at the beginning of the month, and fractured one of his ankles, has died through amputation being delayed too long in order to save the limb.
NAPIER, January 16,
Several cases of severe sunstroke are reported. In one case a girl was delirious for two days. Robert Baxter, nine years old, was killed on Saturday near Waipawa. The boy, while assisting to draft horses, was holding a rail at tho stockyard gate, when one of the horses rushing past struck the rail, knocking the boy down. Baxter was the son of Mr Baxter, chemist, of Christchurch, and was on a visit to the district.
WANGANUI, January 16,
John Davidson, a well-known stockdealer, fell down dead this morning in his house while being washed. Deceased had been ailing for some time, and is supposed to have died of heart disease, from which he had been suffering.
