SHANGHAI, January 5, (Received January 6,1888, at 1.50 p.m.)
The river Hoang-Ho has overflowed its bankH, and inundated the surrounding country. One hundred thousand persons are reported to have been drowned, and two millions have been rendered homeless, and are in a state of starvation.
[The Hoang-Ho has a course of 2,500 miles, and covers 1,000 miles in direct distance. In 1857 this river forsook its old channel, and now flows into the Gulf of Pe-chi-li, in North-east China.]
