Third Day.—(Continued.)

The gathering was brought to a successful termination, though at a late hour, last evening. During the day the president of the Society, Mr R. Swan, presented to the various winners the special prizes presented by several gentlemen and business firms for competition. In so doing, Mr Swan addressed a few appropriate words to every reoipient, and also expressed the thanks of tho Society to the donors for the hearty manner in which they had offered their contributions. Two events on yesterday's card that promised to bo particularly interesting—namely, the bicycle contests—fell through owing to insufficient competition. The Society cannot be accused of niggardliness in connection with this sport, for they offered LI 6 in prizes ; yet only two cyclists entered, and of these one did not put in an appearance, while the other turned up from Christchurch, but lost the run of his bicycle on the way down. The following concludes our report of the sports :

Four rap in the first heat, which was won by J. M'Cabe (14yds), with F. Chiswall (13yds) second; E. Scrimshaw (10yds) and T. Tarpey (12yds) unplaced. Time, 23isec.

In the second heat A. Davidson (14yds) beat W. Noel (6yds) by barely two inohes on the tape, with" J. Paterson (6yds) lust. Time, 24isec.

The final produced a magnificent struggle, M'Cabe and Chiswall making a dead heat for first place, barely in front of Noel, while Patcrson was close up. Time, 24£ sec. During the afternoon the dead heat at 350 yds iu the Caledonian Handicap between W. Williams and G. Houston was run ofT. Houston did not turn up, and Williams ran over by himself, thus gaining the L 3 prizo for first at that distance, in addition to the first prize in the whole handicap. This makes Williams's points 19, and Houston's 9, while T. Peterson conies third with 7 points.

The time for the Five-mile Race on Tuesday was 26min 20scc.

Mr R. Swan, jun., acted as time-keeper during the gathering, and gave entire satisfaction.
