The first day's races at Invercargill on Monday were fairly attended. The results of the chief events were—

Trot, ef 20 sovs.—Herbert 1, Topsy 2. IsveAmiwili, Cop, of 45 sovs. One milei and three quarters -Walker's Camerine (8.8) 1, Gaultfs Victory (9 10) 2, Richardson's Athol Daisy (9), 3. Grand Stand Handicap, of 30 sovs, with sweep of 209 for second horse. One mile and a distance.— CJumejino (8.8) 1, Streamlet (0.12) 2, Dodson (7) 3.

CLINTON RACES. The Clinton races on Monday were well attended. The Maiden Plate was won by Mr M'Douald's Thistle. The Clinton Handicap, of 20 sovs, was won by Gaiety, with Sumatra second, and Land Leaguer third. Prima won the Trot.

The cricket match between Vernon's Team and an Australian Eleven was resumed to-day, the Australians following on their first innings. The wicket waß bumpy. Appended are the scores of the Australians' second innings-. Bruce 18, Garrett 18, Lyons 0, J. Trumblc 8, Horan 2, Trott 2, Blackham 13, Worrall 0, Ferris 7, Trumble 1, Thorpe (not out) 0, extras 3 ; total 78. The Englishmen thus won by an innings and 7S runs.
