ANGLING.
The silver medal presented to the Anglers’ Association by Mr C. Hale was fished-off on Wednesday last. Competitors had the choice of the Waitati, Shag, or Leith. There were five entries; Mr R. Johnston taking the medal with fifty-three fish, weighing 141b, Mr Aitken got six fish, 121b lloz, heaviest fish being 41b 6oz; Mr Ogg eleven fish, 111b Ooz, heaviest fish 21b. The former gentleman fished on the Waitati, the two latter on the Shag. The other competitors did not send in returns. On Tuesday Mr W. Carlton succeeded in killing three fish (101b), and cn Wednesday and Thursday two fish (51b) and six fish (201b) respectively, It is reported in Clinton that heavy fish are being caught in the lower Waiwera. The Otago Acclimatisation Society has liberated 20,000 young salmon in the Jacobs River. This makes 80,000 out of the 100,000 that are to be liberated in this river.
