Under the heading "Scandalous" 'Truth' has the following:—"The 'Ruby' matchboxes of Messrs Bryant and May cost the company 2Jd per 144 boxes. The women who make them have to find paste, hemp, and firing for drying purposes. They can gain, if skilful, fd per hour, or less than lOd for twelve hours' work. If they work eight hours per diem, and take a holiday on Sundays, they would realise the handsome salary of 3s per week. The Company pays its shareholders above 20 percent, dividend. This seems to me hardly a fair division between those who toil and those who do rtfc."
