New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock remains at par. The market rate of discount is 3J per cent., or \ below the bank rate.

The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,550,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,700,000 quarters.

New Zealand mutton is quoted at 3|d to 4d per lb ; tallow and breadstuffs maintain last quoted values.

A numerous gathering of the unemployed took place in Trafalgar Square to-day. A deputation from the men proceeded to the offices of the Metropolitan Board of Works in a threatening manner, and demanded that they should be furnished with employ, inent. A reply will be given by the Board on Monday.

M. Wilson having insisted upon being permitted to explain his conduct to the Committee of the Chamber of Deputies respecting his connection with the War Office scandals, M. GreVy and the Ministry have withdrawn their opposition to the inquiry. M. Wilson refunded L 1.600 for franking private letters despatched by him with President Gravy's stamp. The Committee of the Chamber of Deputies unanimously resolved that it was neceßsary a searching inquiry should be made into the War Office scaudals.

Emperor Francis Joseph in his Speech from the Throne, replying to an address from the delegations, stated that foreign relations continue to be of a satisfactory character, and it would be the endeavor of his Government to pursue the policy of peace hitherto observed, and respect existing treaties. Referring to the Eastern question, His Majesty expressed a hope that in any settlement of the difficulty the desires of the Bulgarian people would be satisfied in accordance with treaty obligations and European interests. In conclusion, and speaking of the recently concluded alliance, the Emperor said the union of Germany, Italy, and Austria would tend to assure the peacp of Europe.
