MEETING OF CREDITORS.

RE J. gPIEBS. A meeting of oreditorsin the estate of Joseph Spiers, of Boslyn, baker, .was held at the Offioia Assignee's office thin morning. Mr North appeared for the bankrupt; Mr Webb for the Assignee. The bankrupt's statement set forth that his liabilities are -to unsecured oreditors LlO2, and to secured oreditors L 225; total, L 827. The assets amount to L3OO, showing a defloienoy of L 27. The principal unsecured oreditors are as follows:—F. Meenan, L 45 13s; J. and A. Smith, LIS; Campbell and Livingston, Ll6. The, secured creditors are; —Bf, Morth, L 15 0; | and'J. Olegg, L 75: while the estimated value of the securities is L 275. The only other assets are furniture, LIS, and a bakehouse valued at LlO. The Bankrupt, on being examined, said that he had been in business at Boslyn for the last twelve months. He had been in business before, bift went away to Sydney and came back a year ago. He had no money when he returned, but had the property, subject to,.a mortgage of LlflO, ana he borrowed a further sum of L7o from Mr Olegg. He did a' cash business, and had men selling for him at times. His sales atone time amounted to about LlO pet week, but latterly they had fallen to 16s per week. This was otfiug to his men leaving him through petting drunk or for other reasons. Mr Meenan remarked that the bankrupt had done well for the first few months, but gradually took to 4 ri nk and Rejected his bnsineßs. The Bankrupt said that he paid his way with borrowed money, and that it was borrowing that brought him down. His wife had spme property—a section adjoining his own—that he made a present to her seven or eight years ago. He did not owe any money at that time. He bad away LlO7 in wages and bom? mission to his men, and L 445 for goods. He kept no books, but had accounts showing what he had paid. He used to run a basket himself, in addition to the business done by the men. For the first few months that he was in business he averaged Ll6 per week. He had no money now, nor had his wife. It was agreed to allow the bankrupt his furniture, and the meeting adjourned sine die.

I 88/CHoTE FOONO. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Ohuie Foong, of Dunrdin, draper, was held at the Official Assignee's, office this afternoon. Mr Qallaway appeared for the bankrupt; Mr Webb for the Assignee. The bankrupt's statement set forth that his liabilities are LJ.64 lfs 2J, and assets L 145 The as follows:—Bing, Harris, and Co., J£J 17s lid; Sargood, Son, and %ep, L 56195; Li Hiwr, L2Q ;.Lo King, Ll4; Toy Sing, LlO; Li Yee, L 3 10s; Brown, Bwing, and Co., L2 W 3d. The assets consist of stpok-in-trade (L 136) and book debts estimated tp realise LlO. The bankrupt, op being examined by the Assignee, said that he had been in business in the Arcade for about four years. When he started he had L6O, which he borrowed from Lo, King, La Yee, Toy Sing, and Li Hing. Business was good for a time, bis takings averaging LlO per week; but of late it had fallen off, and he took only L2 or L 3 per week. It was resolved that the Assignee be autho. Vised to accept an offer of LIOO for the estate, if made by to-morrow; if not. that he realise the estate tq the best advantage. \ The bankrupt was granted an allowance of h\ ppr week -for three weeks, and it was resolved to recommend him for his discharge.
