(Reoolved October 11,1887, at 1.40 a.m.) A memorandum published by the Cotrmittee of the Imperial Institute states that the total subscriptions received in aid of the Institute amounted to upwards of L 400,000, the assistance received from India ard various colonies being consjdered extreme 1 / satisfactory. Jt is the intention of the Committee to make application for a royal charter for the Institute. The memorandum also states that a contract for the construe* tion of the foundations of the building has been concluded. [Special to Press Association.] LONDON, October 10. Baron Herschell, Lord Rosebery, and Sir John Ross, Bart., have been appointed trustees of the Imperial Institute. They intend shortly to organise an intelligence department in connection with commerce ! and emigration.
