After an absence from Auckland of twelve months, Mr Justice Gillies again took his seat on the Bench at the Supreme Court yesterday. There was a large attendance of the legal profession, and Mr Hesketh, on their behalf, read an address of welcome to His Honor, stating that his enforced retirement through ill-health had caused considerable regret. The address also referred to the efficient manner in which Judge Ward had discharged the duties during Mr Justice Gillies's absence. His Honor, in reply, expressed satisfaction at this, and returned thanks for the address in suitable terms. .„ The Wellington Corporation have received an offer from Mr Prince, of Dunedin, to lend the Corporation one dynamo for the purposa *of experimenting, estimating the cost to be between LBO and L7O, the Council to erect theneceßßwyappliantes. ... .-,, •
