LAND BOARD.
To-day's meeting was attended by the Chief Commissioner and all the members. Mr V. Pyke, on behalf of C. P. Beck, asked that the proclamation opening section 8, block 11, Poolburn, for agricultural leasing, be revoked and the land offered by auction at the upset of LI per acre.—Government to be recommended to open the land for cash on application. Mr R. M'Dougall applied for permission to purchase land situated on the boundary of tho surveyed town of Pembroke as suburban land, for the purpose of securing his orchard. Mr Pyke supported the application.—Referred to Ranger Adair for report. ' The Warden at Lawrence favorably recommended and the Board approved of the application by Joseph Henley to purchase hilf-iu-acre held under residence area certificate and adjoining Bection 130, block 5, Waitahuua East. Messrs Orr, Cumner, and Callendar applied to purchase small areas of the Saddle Hill bush reserve adjoining their properties. Ranger Valpy recommended that the reserve be subdivided and sold, but a number of settlers wrote objecting to the sale, as this was the only spot in the district from which firewood could be obtained.-Referred to the Chief Surveyor with a view to giving effect to the application. Ranger Shaw suggested that deferredpavinent section 4, block 9, Tarras, be opened for perpetual leasing, it having been offered at reduced valuations without finding a purchaser.—Government recommended to revoke the proclamation setting apart the land as deferred payment, and to set it apart for perpetual leasing at a capital value of LI per acre. Ranger Valpy forwarded a report on Mr Dean's application to purchase or lease quarry reserve section 18, block 21, Mount Hyde. Mr Simpson supported the application.—Consideration of the matter was deferred till a report was received from the County Council. Tho engineer of the Maniototo County Council wrote asking that a road-line be laid off across sections 1 and 2, block 7, Blackstone— Resolved, that on the County forwarding a survey of tho road required, the same will be recorded.
Mr Pyke, on behalf of Mrs Cotter, applied for a transfer of Run 338b to the B. and N. Z. M. and A. Company, and asked that the rental of that run should be half of the rent of the three runs now held by her.— The subdivision was authorised, at an annual license fee of LlO.
A letter was received from Messrs John Thompson and W. Harvey in regard to dealing with lands in block 10, Tukerau district, at present under lease to the New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Association for rural settlement. The land in question having been opened for a considerable period without any offer for same, the Board recommended its leasing for pastoral purposes, there seeming to be no probability of its being otherwise occupied; and unless some genuine desire can be shown to take up the land for settlement the Board would consider it unwise to recommend the license to be cancelled.
Messrs H. Smith and Ralph Buchham applied to purchase sections 1 and 2, block 20, Arrowtown Extension, under residence certificates. The Warden recommended that tho applicants be declared the purchasers.—Consideration was adjourned for further information.
Messrs Duncan and Macgregor, on behalf of James Paterson, wrote intimating that an overohargehadbeen made on Mr Ballentyne's fencing on section 9, block 14, Chatton, amounting to Lll, and asked that the same be refunded to their client.—Referred to Ranger Hughan for report. The District Land Officer at Clyde, reJiorting on application by D. Robertson t ease five acres of Ettric township, suggested that the land in question and that immediately adjoining be cut up into small areas of from three to five acres, and opened for sale.—Referred to Chief Surveyor to carry out the suggestion if he sees no objection.
The Board approved of the applications of John and Jane M'Kinnon to complete purchase of deferred - payment land in the Otama district.
The Under-Secretary of Crown Lands forwarded a memo, intimating that Government had approved of the Board's resolution in regard to dealing with blocks 8 and 9, Dunkeld, as suburban lands, but the Government cannot lease the land to the County Council.--It was decided to request the Chief Surveyor to have the survey effected.
Messra Murray and Johnston requested a refund of the license fees paid by them for Aralfiki bush, the land having been disposed of as a village settlement, Hughan was requested to see the applicants as to having their license transferred to another bush. Tenders were received for the lease of perpetual-lease sections, and the following declared the lessees; —Poolburn district: Margaret Nevill, section 22, block 3,104 a3r 20p, at Is Ud ; lid; and section 24, block 3, 100 acres, Is 3d. Strath Taieri district: R. J. Sparks, section 9, block 5, 214 alr 17p, 2s. Lauder district; William Roland, section 9, block 3, 200 acres, Is. Peter Campbell was declared the licensee of deferred-payment section 39, block 4, 100 acres, Catlin district, at LI 16s 6d.
